We have arrived at WEEK 8/10, so the student blogging challenge nears its conclusion. While many of you have kept their blogging up-to-date and have done most of the required activities, some are a bit behind. This week can be used to remedy that. Please create a 2Do list for your blogs and come to class prepared – we’ll work on Week 8 activities and catching up until Friday. This means that I expect you to efficiently use our school’s IT as well.
WEEK 8 is GAME WEEK
and all about connecting with other students. For this week you need to make sure:
- You have lots of interesting posts for visitors to read and comment on.
- Visitors can find posts by using tags or categories on your sidebar.
- You have a visitor widget to see where your visitors are coming from.
- You have at least five student blogs from other places around the world on your sidebar.
Game 1: ‘Count Out Three’.
Here are the instructions:
- click on a blog on the student list or class list– count one
- now click on a blog from the new student’s blogroll – count two
- finally click on a blog from that new blogroll – count three
- leave a comment on an interesting post at this third blog.
Do this activity at least three times and finally, write your own post saying which blogs you visited and which posts you left a comment on. Why did you choose that post? Remember to include a link back to the post you left a comment on.
DO answer all comments you receive!
Game 2:
Many great student posts are being flipped to the #17stubc Flipboard magazine:
- Click on the flipboard magazine link here
- Click on the title of the post of what looks like an interesting image or a catchy title
- You should now be taken to the actual blog post, read it and leave a comment
- Come back to the magazine again and repeat two more times
Write a blog post mentioning the blog posts you read and the comment you left.
Game 3:
Start your own game and have at least 5 people participate.
- Decide on a game/puzzle/quiz
- Create a blog post for it with a carchy title and intruiging design (don’t forget the picture quotes)
- Advertise it in person, or on other blogs
- Play at least 4 games of your classmates
The games you decide to provide might be very humble (e.g.: association game, three word story, …), or as complex and challengeing as you like.
Let the games begin!
