Always finish strong!

While the most stressful phases of this school year might be over, academia should not be put on the backburner before you are sure and happy about each and every grade. We still have three weeks to go. As one of these weeks is already reserved for your more sporty adventures, however, and we have another holiday coming up next week – it comes down to 11 days before grading (including today).

So now is the time to think about your achievements in every subject and determine whether a particular one might still need your attention. Are there any unfinished projects? Should you ask anybody for an oral exam before the grading deadline (26th June)?

Blogwise, please make sure you have enough posts to get the grade you desire. Moreover, edit if necessary and keep in mind: all your texts should be up to par when it comes to grammar, spelling, content and digital requirements. Once you are satisfied, “hand in” your blog for grading by commenting on this post (preferably by the 18th of June).

There are two new assignments #23 & #24 on the assignment list for you to check out.

NO EXCUSES – RESULTS!

Student Blogging Challenge: Almost over

For the second to last activity, you are asked to write a brilliant post about a topic having to do with either HISTORY, TRAVEL or INVENTIONS.

Any format works for me, although with regard to our future endeavours, it might be preferable to choose a FCE format, such as essay, article, ….

This text is going to be your flagship post for the challenge, so make it the best you can! Do not forget to include all sources, especially image sources in your post.

I’m looking forward to reading about your thoughts.

May the muse be with you!

Do not forget to link your post in response to the activity on

Student Blogging Challenge: Game Week

We have arrived at WEEK 8/10, so the student blogging challenge nears its conclusion. While many of you have kept their blogging up-to-date and have done most of the required activities, some are a bit behind. This week can be used to remedy that. Please create a 2Do list for your blogs and come to class prepared – we’ll work on Week 8 activities and catching up until Friday. This means that I expect you to efficiently use our school’s IT as well.

WEEK 8 is GAME WEEK

and all about connecting with other students. For this week you need to make sure:

  1. You have lots of interesting posts for visitors to read and comment on.
  2. Visitors can find posts by using tags or categories on your sidebar.
  3. You have a visitor widget to see where your visitors are coming from.
  4. You have at least five student blogs from other places around the world on your sidebar.

Game 1: Count Out Three’.

Here are the instructions:

  1. click on a blog on the student list or class list– count one
  2. now click on a blog from the new student’s blogroll – count two
  3. finally click on a blog from that new blogroll – count three
  4. leave a comment on an interesting post at this third blog.

Do this activity at least three times and finally, write your own post saying which blogs you visited and which posts you left a comment on. Why did you choose that post? Remember to include a link back to the post you left a comment on.

DO answer all comments you receive!

Game 2:

Many great student posts are being flipped to the #17stubc Flipboard magazine:

  1. Click on the flipboard magazine link here
  2. Click on the title of the post of what looks like an interesting image or a catchy title
  3. You should now be taken to the actual blog post, read it and leave a comment
  4. Come back to the magazine again and repeat two more times

Write a blog post mentioning the blog posts you read and the comment you left.

Game 3:

Start your own game and have at least 5 people participate.

  1. Decide on a game/puzzle/quiz
  2. Create a blog post for it with a carchy title and intruiging design (don’t forget the picture quotes)
  3. Advertise it in person, or on other blogs
  4. Play at least 4 games of your classmates

The games you decide to provide might be very humble (e.g.: association game, three word story, …), or as complex and challengeing as you like.

Let the games begin!

Worst Case Scenarios

source: lifehacker.com

All of you have been thrown into one of five worst case scenarios last week. You have gotten drawn into a group and each of you was given one object to help you survive whatever difficult environment you found yourself in. As teams all of you are aiming at surviving the next five days within your scenario. Each character will provide one chapter of a short story recounting your unique experience. Each team adds one extra chapter, so we should have four stories with five chapters and one with six chapters to read.

Find and enjoy the stories:

Student Blogging Challenge 2017

As promised, we’ll take part in the edublogs student challenge over the course of the next few weeks. As I have been under the weather for a bit recently, we are beginning the challenge a bit later than planned, so the sooner you get registered the better. Please follow the instructions on this page. For general information and additional input regarding first activities please click on the Student Blogging Challenge Logo underneath.

As a first activity please create an “About Me” page, so your readers can find out something about you. Remember, you do not have to take the classic route. Try to make it interesting and provide a little more detail than name, age and hobbies. Secondly, please create an avatar for your blogging persona (if you haven’t already). Finally check out some of the other students’ blogs and see if you find somebody who might be interesting to follow.

Best of luck and enjoy the experience!
